<![CDATA[EKT]]> <![CDATA[What is National Archive of Ph.D. Theses? ]]> National Documentation Centre (EKT), is, by law, the competent authority for the development and maintenance of the National Archive of Ph.D. Theses, instituted in 1985 and operated by EKT since then. NA.Ph.D. collects, in digital form, doctoral dissertations awarded by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Greece as well as Ph.D. Theses awarded to Greek scholars by foreign HEIs and certified by the Hellenic N.A.R.I.C. N.A.Ph.D. consists of two individual information systems, which are developed and operated by EKT:

I. Ph.D. Management System:  is used exclusively by the Secretariats of the Schools/ Departments of Greek academic institutions and Hellenic N.A.R.I.C. This system exclusively allows the authorized staff of both the Secretariats and the Hellenic N.A.R.I.C, as well as doctorate holders, to complete the submission process easily and directly, guiding them by successive steps.

II. N.A.Ph.D. Theses: is an information system – digital repository which contains all doctoral dissertations that have been collected.

]]> <![CDATA[What is the Digital Repository of N.A.Ph.D. Theses? ]]> EKT, in the context of its institutional role, as a National Scientific Infrastructure, promotes the collection, the documentation and the distribution of reputable scientific and cultural content both to Greek and international scientific community and promotes Open Science and Open Access. All dissertations that have been collected are available in the Disposal System. This System is developed with EKT’s internal technical knowledge.

For all dissertations, metadata are available, i.e. data that concern them, accompany them and document them, including: title, abstract, Ph.D. holder’ s name and surname, scientific field, year of doctoral degree’ s award, educational institution, names of members of the examination board, keywords, country and language. For the vast majority of dissertations, the Ph.D. Thesis’ digital file is available for browsing and online reading.

]]> <![CDATA[Do I have to be a registered user in order to visit Digital Repository of N.A.Ph...]]> Digital repository provides both to the guest and the registered users the following services:

  • Simple and advanced search of a Ph.D. thesis thought the fields of bibliographic records.         
  • Navigation based on defined fields of bibliographic records (scientific field, educational institution, year of award, author, country, language).  
  • View a digital file of a Ph.D. Thesis only for reading.

Both for searching and for browsing of a Ph.D. Thesis’ digital file, neither registration nor login are required. Registration is required only for downloading a digital file (in PDF format) of a Ph.D. Thesis.

Note: Once downloaded, this digital file may be used further with the Creative Commons license (or licenses for accompanying files) embedded in the body (in a prominent place on the first page).

Therefore, it is not necessary to be registered to this system, but it is encouraged.

]]> <![CDATA[What do I need to know about the registration form in N.A.Ph.D. Theses?]]> When registering, the fields that must be filled in are marked with an asterisk (*), while for the rest, the filling is optional. The registration form is available here .

EKT may - through its institutional role - process personal data of N.A.Ph.D. Theses’ registered users, in order to collect data, produce statistics and monitor compliance with these terms, for the period of user registration in the N.A.Ph.D. Theses.

Also, EKT may process personal data of registered users, in order to collect data, improve the level of services offered and monitor compliance with the terms of use, for the period of user registration in the N.A.Ph.D. Theses’ services. EKT does neither transfer nor disclose personal data of users to third parties, unless otherwise provided by law.

The e-mail address is reviewed by the System for its validity and is used by EKT, to contact you, in order to send, immediately, a relevant confirmation of your registration, where all its details will be reported. Therefore, it is important to check your e-mail address carefully.

The password can be up to 6 characters long and is case sensitive. The password may contain uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and the following text characters ~! @ # $% ^ & * () _ + - = {} | [] \: "; '<>?,. /.

Note: An account is created only if you declare that you have been informed and unconditionally agree and accept the Terms of Use of the National Dissertation of Ph.D. Theses, as well as its Security and Privacy Policy. This acceptance is part of the registration process and you must accept these terms each time you request to retrieve the full text of a doctoral dissertation in pdf format.

]]> <![CDATA[What can I do if I forget / lose my password?]]> If you forget/ lose your password, click "I forgot my password" and you will receive a password change notification to your registered email address.

 

]]> <![CDATA[Can I change / update my personal data that I had stated during my registration ...]]> As a user in N.A.Ph.D. Theses, you have direct access to the personal data that you have stated during your registration either for checking or updating them. You can modify any of your personal data you want (Name, Surname, Phone, Password, etc.) after logging in with your password and selecting "Update Data". Since your email is identical to the Username, it is not possible to change it. If you wish to use a different email, you will need to re-register in N.A.Ph.D. Theses.

]]> <![CDATA[Do I need any specific software to download the full digital text of a Ph.D. The...]]> Specific software is not required in order to download a full digital text - if available - of a dissertation, but Adobe Acrobat DC software is required in order to view or read it.

]]> <![CDATA[Why is the digital file of a Ph.D. Thesis not available while its metadata are d...]]> This is because access to dissertation’s metadata is not restricted despite the fact that the applicant may set a time limit for digital file’s publication. The release date of the digital file is the date on which it can be made available online, in accordance with the license set by him/ her and is embedded in his/ her text and an integral part of it. The above restriction (embargo) concerns exclusively the access to the digital file which is hosted in N.A.Ph.D. Theses and does not concern dissertation’s metadata.

]]> <![CDATA[Can I access the digital file of a Ph.D. Thesis whose full text is not available...]]> Since the restriction (embargo) concerns exclusively the access to the digital file of a dissertation which is hosted in N.A.Ph.D. Theses, you can access the digital file only for its viewing (reading), through a terminal in EKT, with a physical presence, respecting all safeguards with the appropriate technical means. ]]> <![CDATA[How can I search, easily and quickly, a digital file of a Ph.D. Thesis?]]> In order to search the digital file of a Ph.D. Thesis, you can enter a keyword in Search. There is also the possibility of Advanced Search, based on specific fields, or a combination of Boolean fields and search techniques and "AND", OR", "NO" operators. Search is based on one keyword and/ or more keywords that the user enters in one of the predefined fields (title, author, topic, abstract, keywords, scientific field, committee members, institution, date and language), and/ or the available complete digital files of doctoral dissertations.
