What is the national statistical survey for doctorate holders? What do I need to know before completing the questionnaire?

National Center for Documentation (EKT), as the competent National Statistical Authority of the Hellenic Statistical System, conducts the annual national statistical survey for doctorate holders. The results are published, per year, at the website https://metrics.ekt.gr/phd-holders. The research is inventory. New doctorate holders must complete the questionnaire, along with submitting their dissertation to National Archive of Ph.D. Theses.

The questionnaire includes the following sections:

  • Section 1: Demographics
  • Section 2: Previous academic degrees & Specialization of doctoral studies
  • Section 3: Doctoral studies’ period (duration, funding, professional activity, international mobility)
  • Section 4: Scientific outputs related to the dissertation
  • Section 5: Professional employment upon dissertation’s completion
  • Section 6: Future career prospects

The duration of completing this questionnaire does not exceed 30 minutes.

National Center for Documentation (EKT), as the competent National Statistical Authority of the Hellenic Statistical System, is responsible of European and national statistics on research, development and innovation (Law 4623/2019, Government Gazette A’ 134). EKT is committed to comply with the statistical law 3832/2010 and the legislation for protection of personal data (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and law 4624/2019, Government Gazette A’134).

In this context, both the collection and the editing of the provided data are carried out in accordance with the regulations and the guarantees of the above legislation. This information is used exclusively for statistical purposes respecting data’s CONFIDENTIALITY. This data are accessible only to certified and authorized personnel to whom both the collection and the editing has been entrusted. Also, these employees are bound by explicit confidentiality obligations under the privacy protocol.

EKT reserves the right to collect data through the use of questionnaires. The resulting data are used for statistical and research purposes (through an anonymization process) and for the EKT’s doctorates list. This data will not be passed on to third parties (unless expressly required in order to respond to lawful requests from law enforcement agencies or when required by applicable law or court decisions), and will never be published in a form that allows the identification of natural persons.
